In a world where words have steadily depreciated thanks to their constant alterations in meaning, people have learnt not to trust them. <—Read this in the movie dude’s voice.
If, as human beings, we’ve stopped trusting the regular words, imagine how much less people trust the words of a believer/Christian.
Here me out:
Believers are under a microscope of epic proportions. And although we’ve been told to preach God and witness with our words, people listen less to what we say and more to what we do.
Eh? Listen to what we do? Something ain’t right with that statement ennit?
But it’s true.
Our actions speak louder than words. Cliché, but true.
And we’ve seen it. People who are saved, sanctified, Holy Ghost filled, water baptised on a Sunday morning and maaaybe a Sunday night… But during the week? Seems like they are a different person. And we’re stuck shaking our head at them. And if we’re shaking our heads, imagine what everyone else is doing.
Our lives should reflect Christ and show others how to live. Of course, we’re not perfect, prone to mistakes and the like, but God expects us to walk in His footsteps and to be an example to those around us.
As believers we can’t be all talk and no action, especially now.
We’ve got to move from being a GPS device, and become more of an interactive map. I’m not saying don’t speak at all, not by a long shot, but we have to back it up with our actions. If people can’t see Christ in our daily lives, no amount of talking about Him will bring others to Him.
You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.
Matthew 7:16-23 NLT
I think the Bible makes it really clear. We gotta do more than speak.
