We’ve all heard of it, but do we really know what it is?
Faith. One word. Five letters.
It’s continued obedience in spite of circumstances and consequences. Hebrews 11:1 tells us: …the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen.
Those who believe in Christ are oftentimes faced with many questions that cannot be answered simply because their beliefs are grounded in faith. The human mind is unable to comprehend all that it entails (a God we can’t see or a Heaven we’ve never experienced) but through faith, we understand. It sounds complicated because the humanity in us wants to question everything and have answers for everything. God doesn’t operate in that way. He doesn’t want us to prove who He is, He just wants us to believe.
Of course there will be times when we stumble in faith because at the basis of it all we are human. However that is when we really need to hold on to our faith to guide us through. God testifies of Himself daily, in various ways. They are not always huge and therefore they go unnoticed (the wind that whistles through the trees; we’ve never once seen it but we all believe it exists because we’ve seen/felt the results of it). Just so, with God, we see the results of all He has done and is doing right now, not only in and for us, but in and for others.
So I believe and will always believe. In the times when my humanity tries to step in, I stop, regroup and reaffirm my faith. It’s not easy but in my opinion it’s the best way to live. I work on it daily and that’s all God asks for.
He’s ever-faithful and all He asks of us, is our faith.
